Occupational Safety Training

Utah Safety Council is not an OTI Education Center but serves as a host training organization for Mountain West OSHA Education Center.

    Our Training Center

    Training from the Utah Safety Council can help you mitigate risks and gain the skills needed to integrate safety into your workplace.     On-Site Training

    Missed a course at the Utah Safety Council? No problem! We can bring any of our regularly scheduled classes on-site to you. Our certified trainers can:
    - Deliver any of our occupational safety training courses wherever and whenever you choose.
    - Customize the content and learning activities to include your organization's policies, procedures, and forms.

    Don’t have a company training center? Use ours! Depending on availability, the Utah Safety Council's training center has three classroom sizes to meet your needs. Our training center is located at 1574 West 1700 South, Salt Lake City, UT.

    Need training not listed on our website? Give us a call! We have a great resource of certified professionals that can help customize and deliver training to meet your specific needs.

Mine Safety & Health (MSHA) Training

Training is an essential part of our mission to keep miners safe and healthy. Our goal is to help the mining industry through our high-quality safety training programs. Federal law requires that all miners receive 24hr New-Miner training and additional yearly 8hr Annual Refresher training. Our approved MSHA training programs provides materials, guidance, and hands-on assistance to help miners and operators meet their training obligations and more.

    New/ Inexperienced Miner Training

    This course covers all aspects of the initial training requirements for owners and operators under 30 CFR Part 48 and satisfies the total MSHA requirement for new/inexperienced miner training. Participants will learn their rights and responsibilities, job related safety procedures, rescue and first aid techniques, as well as other safety and health hazards in the surface metal/non-metal industry. Students will receive a completed 5000-23 training certificate upon completion. This certificate will expire one year after completion (by the end of the training month). After completing the course students can come to our campus for skill-testing in order to receive a First Aid / CPR / AED certification.

Refinery

The Utah Safety Council has partnered with Wasatch Valley refineries for over 80 years. We provide training in-person and in our computer lab to meet market need.

   

Basic Orientation Plus

Basic Orientation Plus is designed for contractors or contract employees who perform work on refinery properties. Topics include: General Industrial Safety, Hearing Conservation, Elevated Work, Electrical Safety, Hazard Communication, Hand Safety and the workers Role in Safety. After successfully completing the course and test, participants receive a photo identification badge that is required to verify course completion. Certification is valid for one year, after which the Basic Plus Orientation Refresher course must be taken. Please pre-register to reserve your seat in the class..


Contractor Safety Orientation (UITC)

Contractor Safety Orientation (UITC) is designed for contractors or contract employees who perform work on refinery properties. The course is also utilized by other organizations desiring to orient contractors in safety prior to working on their site. Topics include: General Industrial Safety, Hearing Conservation, Elevated Work, Electrical Safety, Hazard Communication, Hand Safety and the Worker’s Role in Safety. After successfully completing the course, participants receive a photo identification badge that is required to verify course completion. Certification is valid for two years, after which the course must be repeated. Please pre-register to ensure your seat in the course.


BOPR - Refresher, Holly Site Specific & Other Courses

Our Basic Orientation Plus - Refresher (BOPR) course is available in the computer lab for students that have previously completed the Basic Orientation Plus (BOP) course and whose certification has been expired for less than 3 years. Please call 801.746.SAFE (7233) for available dates and to pre-register for the course. Any rescheudles, cancellations, or other changes may also we made at this number. All other computer lab site specific courses are open by appointment as well for many of the same site specific and virtual courses offered at other safety council locations.
