Cardinal Health Celebrates National Safety Month

06/28/2017- The month of June was a busy safety month for the West Valley Cardinal Health Med DC. Throughout the month, they conducted several safety activities, including multiple emergency drills, trainings, and safety-related games.

Most employees would agree that the PPE race was the most entertaining. They broke the staff up into two teams. The teams then had to help dress their fellow employees in PPE (e.g., face shield, apron, booties, nitrile gloves) and respond to a pretend liquid spill. The first team to have every one of their teammates respond to the spill fully dressed in PPE was the winner.

Overall, it was great month. Employees not only gained some important information about safety both at work and at home, they had fun doing it.

Richard shared a tragic, but real-life, incident that occurred here in Utah just a year ago. His main point was that safety can throw you a curve-ball and it’s important to be prepared for anything, even if the odds of an incident happening are low.

The second keynote speaker was Mercedes Ramirez Johnson. She spoke about her own story of being only one of four survivors in a devastating plane crash in Colombia. She emphasized the importance of living life to the fullest and being cognitively aware of what you’re doing at work. She mentioned that if the minds of the pilots flying her plane had been focused, they could have avoided getting off their route and crashing.

The conference had several breakout sessions as well. Some of the topics covered were Behavioral Safety, Amputations, Safety Training Techniques, and Workplace Incentive Programs to name a few.  The Mining Conference provides a great opportunity to learn more from some excellent safety leaders in our community.

This was a fun opportunity for families and employees to celebrate this milestone with us while watching Kung Fu Panda. Prior to the movie we had 80th year themed cupcakes for all of our guests to enjoy. In addition to the movie, popcorn, soda and cupcakes we also held a raffle with fun giveaways. This evening was a complete success and we were so proud to celebrate with the people who help us make a difference in safety. View the pictures from this event.

    Rock Exotica Tour

10/30/2017- Today we had the opportunity to tour Rock Exotica in Clearfield, Utah with their Quality Manager, Jack Fenn. Rock Exotica started making their first products in a garage, in 1987. They have grown out of the garage and currently have dealers in not only the United States and Canada, but are international as well. They make anything from carabiners, pulleys, swivels, rigging plates, rope grabs and so much more. If you like to Rock Climb, Rock Exotica is the place to check out. Rock Exotica has been a member of the Utah Safety Council since 2014. Thanks Jack for the great tour!
