Protecting Ourselves from Slips, Trips and FallsFalls are the leading cause of injury-related deaths among adults age 72 and older and are the second leading cause of death for ages 63-71. Falls are also the main cause of injuries to children under age 14. In 2009, more than 26,100 Americans died as a result of falls, and more than 8.5 million were treated in the emergency room for a fall related injury.
