Web-based MSHA Training 

Training is an essential part of our mission to keep miners safe and healthy. Our goal is to help the mining industry though our high-quality training programs. Federal law requires that all miners receive basic and annual refresher training. Our approved MSHA training programs provides materials, guidance, and hands-on assistance to help miners and operators meet their training obligations and more.

New/Inexperienced Miner Training (or Underground)

This course covers all aspects of the initial training requirements for owners and operators under 30 CFR Part 48. The objective is to train new/inexperienced miners on the safety and health hazards in the surface metal/non-metal industry. Participants will learn their rights and responsibilities, job related safety procedures and rescue and first aid techniques. This course satisfies the total MSHA requirement for new/inexperienced miner training. Upon completion, students will receive a completed 5000-23 training certificate. This certificate will expire one year after completion. 

Introduction to Work Environment MSHA

The Introduction to Work Environment is a MSHA requirement for all students taking a New Miner course Please contact the site you are working with to complete this requirement. The Utah Safety Council also provides the Introduction to Work Environment tour onsite at the Bingham Canyon Mine. If you are contracted with Kennecott / Rio Tinto and will be working on a current project, please register for our Intro to Work Environment Tour.

  Annual Refresher Training - Web-Based

  This course covers all aspects of the annual training requirements for owners and operators under 30 CFR Part 48. Those who successfully complete this course will return to the job with the skills necessary to perform their work in accordance with MSHA regulations. Upon completion, students will receive a completed 5000-23 annual refresher training certificate. This certificate will expire one year after completion.
