7/17/2019- Utah's Workplace Safety Week! 

It's a gorgeous day to kick off #UTWorkplaceSafety Week! This week's festivities started this morning with Sgt. Lawrence Hopper from Utah Highway Patrol who reminded us of the impact of distracted driving. Then he let us try it for ourselves on a distracted driving obstacle course using trikes. Thanks to the Utah Safety Council for making it happen and for reminding us to stay safe on the roads. #BeCarefulOutThere

6/6/2019- American Concrete Institution 

We want to thank the American Concrete Institution for the tour they set up of Utelite Corporation yesterday! For over 50 years, Utelite Corporation has produced and supplied rotary-kiln, high strength, structural lightweight expanded shale aggregates (ESLA). Expanded shale lightweight aggregates offer exceptional performance and value in a world of applications.

5/31/2019- 5th Annual Crazy Pants Golf Tournament

Thank you to all who attended and supported our 5th Annual Crazy Pants Golf Tournament! We made over $18,000 and all the proceeds will go towards the growth and support of our Home & Community Programs!

A BIG thank you to Jason from the Utah Correctional Industries for the tour of the Utah State Prison and for a delicious lunch at the Serving Time Cafe!!! UCI operates more than 20 businesses producing products and services such as furniture, seating, construction, printing, scanning, and signs to name a few.

4/30/2019- Women in Safety 

A big thank you to Nelson Labs for the tour they provided our Women In Safety group today! They are more than a microbiology lab. They are the leading global testing laboratory for MedTech and pharmaceutical companies.

4/18/2019= Utah Food Bank 

Today we had the opportunity to tour Utah Food Bank with their safety manager Jeanie! The Utah Food Bank has served Utah’s hungry for 115 years. In 2018 they served 399,974 Kids café meals, served 304,845 Mobile School Pantry clients, delivered 46,027 Food boxes to seniors, kids and disabled and they had 101,022 donated volunteer hours which equals 49 Full-time employees!! These are some pretty astounding numbers. Thanks for everything you do and for being a part of the Utah Safety Council since 2003.

4/12/2019- Utah's Hogle Zoo

We are looking forward to seeing our members today at Utah's Hogle Zoo! We appreciate all the efforts they make in keeping their employees safe each and every day!

We had the oppetunity to be an exhibitor at the "We Are Utah Manufacturers Association Expo" It was great to see so many of our members.

Today’s speaker at the Sandy Chamber Women in Business meeting, Dell Loy Hansen was fantastic! His appreciation for women and the ability they have to lead is outstanding.

3/26/2019- Innophos, Inc

We had a great tour of Innophos today with their EHS Manager Andrew! 3./21/2019- Utah National Guard 

We had a blast touring the Utah National Guard and learning about their safety procedures.

1/24/2019- YESCO

Today we had the opportunity to tour YESCO with their safety manager, Paula Cronn. YESCO has been making signs since 1920. It would be impossible to name all of the signs, lighting, and billboards YESCO has manufactured, installed and serviced in the Salt Lake area. Safety is a high priority for YESCO, they want to make sure each one of their employees make it home to their loved ones every day! We want to thank YESCO for being a member of the Utah Safety Council since 1995.

11/30/2018- WISH Award

We were excited to present Natalie Kaddas from Kaddas Enterprises with our first WISH (Women in Safety & Health) Award. The WISH Award is given to a female safety professional who has met certain criteria including exceptional dedication and leadership, performed exceptionally well in a leadership role, made cultural changes in their workplace or industry, shown creative excellence, made an impact on the safety and health of their employees and has made a significant impact and/or participated in a unique safety initiative. Natalie has done all of these things. Congratulations Natalie!

11/29/2018- UDOT 

We had the opportunity to visit UDOT’s Traffic Operation Center. During this tour we learned about all the advanced technologies UDOT uses to monitor traffic, weather, detect accidents/problems. Once the Traffic Operations Center sees a problem at hand, they take necessary actions to return traffic flow to normal. 10/15/2018- Union Pacific 

The Utah Safety Council is the proud recipient of the Union Pacific Grant! These generous funds will be used to grow and support our Buckle Up For Love program. We were honored to be able to attend this event with many other organizations and nonprofits throughout Utah and hear the inspiring changes that are going on in our community. Thank you, Union Pacific, for your support! Also, a special thank you to the Hale Centre Theatre for hosting us at their beautiful venue!

9/18/2018- Women in Safety

Our Women in Safety group had a fabulous tour of the crime lab! Thank you so much to Jay Henry, director for the utah Department of Public Safety Crime Laboratory and to Pilar Shortsleeve, department of public safety chief forensic scientist at the Utah Bureau of Forensic Service.

9/14/2018 - Coates for Kids, inc 

Today was a great day to be out at The Barn Golf Course Club supporting Coates Electrical & Instrumentation Inc. and their Coates for Kids, Inc. foundation. 

For well over a decade, Coates Electric al & Instrumentation Inc. provided new warm hooded coats & mittens to children who would otherwise go without. With the generous support of Coates Electric, Coates Electric employee donations, friends, family, community and corporate donations, they have been able to provide this great opportunity to thousands of children each year.

9/11/2018- Intermountain Power Service Corporation

During Safe and Sound Week, Intermountain Power Service Corporation participated in our Safety Swap Contest. With all of the contest entries Intermountain Power Service Corporation tied for 1st. They understand the importance of creating a proactive safety culture and jumped on the opportunity to encourage employee involvement with a simple checklist of hazards in the workplace.

08/27/2018--Fedex Supply Chain for Hershey 

We had the opportunity to visit the Fedex Supplychain for Hershey in Ogden and see their amazing warehouse. It was great to see that safety is their #1 priority! Thank you Ed for your time and for the great tour.

08/27/2018--SAC Incorporated

We had the honor of delivering donuts to SAC Incorporated who tied for 1st in our Safety Swap Contest for Safe and Sound Week.

Founded in the 1960’s SAC grew from a regional construction supplier to a leading provider of design, engineering, procurement, fabrication and delivery of material related to piping, piping components, and non-structural steel fabrications.

They understand the importance of safety and how each individual is key to changing a safety culture. SAC Incorporated has created a safety committee that meets monthly and recognizes a different employee each month who has gone above and beyond with their safety efforts.  

08/03/2018--Thank You For Making An Impact!

At our 2018 Annual Meeting and Safety Awards Luncheon, our members donated school supplies for children in need. The response was amazing and the supplies were gratefully received by the Jordan School District.  Many thanks to those who donated for making a real impact in the life of a child!

07/27/2018 --Tempest Enterprises

Today we had the opportunity to go out into the field and visit Tempest Enterprises on a natural gas service installation. Thank you, Shane, for the informational and educational tour of how natural gas makes its way from a pipe underground into our homes. We sometimes forget all the hard work and process it takes to have this wonderful utility at the luxury of our fingertips.  Even though they are based in Utah, they are a licensed underground contractor for Utah, Idaho, Wyoming, Colorado, Arizona, Nevada, and California. This 4th generation underground utility contractor has been a Utah Safety Council member for over 10 years and value Safety 1st in their Triangle of Success.

O7/19/2018 -- Hugger Mugger

We had the opportunity to tour Hugger Mugger Yoga Products, who recently joined in April.  In 1986, Hugger Mugger Yoga was founded by a yoga strap and a pair of yoga shorts with a thigh-hugging elastic band. They take great pride in their USA made yoga products and ship all over the world. Thanks for understanding the importance of safety and making it a priority!

06/28/2018--Crazy Pants Golf Tournament

A big thanks to those who participated in the 4th annual Crazy Pants Golf Tournament! There were some GREAT pants this year. Tournament proceeds support our Home and Community program that provides materials and resources to keep our families safe at home.

06/13/2018 – Pharmachem Laboratories

We were privileged to visit Pharmachem Laboratories. It was fascinating to see all of the products and procedures that take place there. They take raw material and through grinding and purifying their product, they make custom vitamins, minerals, dietary and energy supplements according to each client’s needs. They have huge machinery that helps grind and sort each product. They truly care about their product, their employees, and their customers. Thank you for letting The Utah Safety Council see all of the great work that you guys do!

06/14/2018-Advanced Safety Certification

Congratulations to April Rask of BROWZ LLC for completing all of the requirements to achieve her OSHA Compliance Certificate. Congratulations, April!

06/09/2018 - Community Service

For the past two years, the Utah Safety Council has given back to the community by participating in the Adopt-A-Highway program! We recently renewed our contract and will continue to keep giving back!

05/23/2018- Petersen Inc.

Today we had the opportunity to tour Petersen Inc. with Jon Rasband, their EH&S Engineer. Petersen Inc. started out in a garage in 1961 is today over 1.3 million square feet of world-class manufacturing, specialized fabrication, precision machining, warehouse and distribution facilities in Ogden, Utah, and Pocatello, Idaho. Today they employ over 500 employees and have strong roots in the communities they operate in. Petersen Inc. takes great pride in delivering quality, on-time products to their customers and the industries that they serve. They build anything from aerospace, nuclear mining, petrochemical and so much more. There’s nothing they can’t build. Petersen Inc has been a member of the Utah Safety Council since 1995.

05/15/2018-Governor’s Energy Summit

Today we are attending the Governors Energy Summit and learning more about the innovations fueling our future. 05/11/2018- Varex Imaging
Today we met with Jim Anton from Varex Imaging Corporation and had a fascinating tour of their facility. Varex Imaging Corporation is a leading independent supplier of medical X-ray tubes and image processing solutions. From medical imaging to cargo screening and border security, our components their components are used by X-ray imaging system manufacturers around the globe to detect, diagnose and protect. Jim is dedicated to making sure that Varex Imaging Corporation is a great place to work. Varex has been a member of the Utah Safety Council since 1989.

05/10/2018- Fall Prevention Demonstration
Many thanks to 3M for delivering interesting and vital education about fall prevention. This event was support of the National Safety Stand-down for Preventing Falls in Construction. A big thank-you, also, to R&R Barbeque for providing delicious food for event attendees.

05/10/2018- OSHA 7405: Fall Hazard Awareness for the Construction Industry
Full house for this important class as part of the National Safety Stand-down for Preventing Falls in Construction. This course focuses on the identification, evaluation, prevention, and control of fall hazards in the construction industry.

05/09/2018 - Certain Teed Simtek
Today we had the opportunity to tour CertainTeed Simtek in Orem, Utah., with their Safety Manager, Natalie Anderson. CertainTeed Corporation is a North American manufacturer of building materials for both commercial and residential construction. Simtek pioneered and patented the design of a rotationally molded fence with  EcoStone®, it's simulated stone fence system that combines the realistic appearance of stone with superior performance.  CertainTeed is a new member of the Utah Safety Council, and we are excited to work with them. Thanks for the awesome tour, Natalie! 

05/08/2018- Women in Safety
We had a great turnout for our Women in Safety group this month. Kevin Robison did a wonderful job presenting on Management Safety Leadership & Responsibility. Thank you to everyone who made it out. We look forward to seeing you all again in June for the Active Shooter & Hands-on Self Defense training. 

04/25/2018- Tour of Doppelmayr
Doppelmayr has been a member of the Utah Safety Council for nearly 12 years. We recently were able to visit them at their facility and check out all the amazing things they do. They are one of the world’s largest manufacturers of ski lifts, and they send them all over the world! It was fascinating to see them at work, working heavy machinery, welding, assembly lines, cutting steel with fire and plasma, along with much more. You can tell without a doubt that they love what they do and truly care about the customer. We were able to see a model unit that was going to be shipped out of the country. Thanks again for hosting us, and for being a member of the Utah Safety Council!

Utah Hygiene Conference

11/17/2017- Salt Lake City Department of Airports
Today we had a great tour of the Salt Lake City Department of Airports diverse work groups. We saw many different aspects of their operations; including airport police, wildlife, maintenance, snow removal, greenhouse and so much more! Thanks, Heidi & Paige, for the tour. The Salt Lake Department of Airports has been a member of the Utah Safety Council since 1994.

Utah Hygiene Conference

10/30/2017- Halloween Bash
As parents prepared to send their kids off for trick or treating and brace for the sugar rush that will possess them the Utah Safety Council adds to the fun and creates a safe place to do some trick or treating. Halloween is meant to be spooky fun without any trouble or pain. The Utah Safety Council did just that by hosting a Halloween Family Bash night where families from the community were welcomed to enjoy trick or treating, arts and crafts, tricycle paths, and fire trucks. In partner with the Salt Lake City Fire Department, Poison Control, and Utah Highway patrol we enjoyed out first Halloween Bash.

Annual Meeting Safety Awards

8/18/2017- Congratulations to all of our Superheroes of Safety
We celebrated the "Superheroes of Safety" at our Annual Meeting and Awards Luncheon at The Little America Hotel on August 18, 2017. We were proud to present over 160 awards to companies who have proven their dedication to creating safe workplaces.
