Due to the increased COVID-19 cases in Utah and the most recent regulations, we are currently not offering in-person MSHA classes.  We ARE still offering a MSHA approved web-based option to meet the needs of our students.  Sign up here.

We apologize for the inconvenience this may cause and sincerely appreciate your support while we do everything we can to continue offering high quality training and keep our students, instructors, and staff safe.

This three-day course covers all aspects of the initial training requirements for owners and operators under 30 CFR Part 48. The objective is to train new/inexperienced miners on the safety and health hazards in the surface metal/non-metal industry. Participants will learn their rights and responsibilities, job-related safety procedures and rescue and first aid and CPR techniques. This course satisfies the MSHA classroom requirement for new/inexperienced miner training. Upon completion, students will receive a 5000-23 training certificate. Training must be renewed annually with the MSHA 8-hour Refresher course.

The Introduction to Work Environment is a MSHA required part of New Miner training.  Please contact the site you will be working with to meet this requirement.

NOTE for Kennecott / Rio Tinto Contractors:  Utah Safety Council provides the Introduction to Work Environment tour onsite at the Bingham Canyon Mine for approved Rio Tinto / Kennecott contractors.  If you are contracted with Kennecott / Rio Tinto and will be working on a current project, please register on our website here.  Seating is extremely limited.  Please note - only approved Rio Tinto / Kennecott contractors will be approved to attend this tour.  All others will not be allowed onsite.
